CPWD to develop infrastructure at Tumakuru Helicopter Unit

BENGALURU: The Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) on Friday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Central Public Works Department (CPWD) for execution of infrastructure development works at the HAL’s new greenfield helicopter facility at Tumakuru.

The MoU was signed at a programme held as part of Aero India 2017.

Self-sufficient

“The project spread over 615 acres allotted by the Government of Karnataka will house infrastructure for production and testing facilities, self-sufficient manufacturing capabilities of a wide range of helicopters of 3-tonne to 12-tonne class,” HAL Chairman and Managing Director T Suvarna Raju said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had laid the foundation stone for the HAL’s new helicopter manufacturing facility at Bidarehalla Kaval in Gubbi taluk of Tumakuru district on January 3, 2016.

Under this collaboration, the HAL and the CPWD are set to execute stage 1 construction.

MoU with IAI

The HAL has been selected by Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) for further supply of Boeing 737 Main Deck Cargo Door and a contract to this effect was signed at Aero India 2017 on Friday.

The HAL has already manufactured and supplied more than 30 of 737 Main Deck Cargo Doors to IAI.

T Suvarna Raju, CMD, HAL, Narendra Kumar, Additional Director General, CPWD, V Natarajan, General Manager, Helicopter Division, HAL and other senior officers were present on the occasion.
